چکیده

Background: In linear accelerators, the treatment field’s uniform intensity is achieved by including a flattening filter in beam. However, to produce more conformal dose distributions, contemporary radiotherapy practice now frequently uses fluence and aperture modifying techniques, such as volumetric modulated arc therapy. these circumstances, beam manufacturing process no longer required. It therefore necessary compare monitor units of 6 MV free plans how it influences gamma pass rates determine which best for treating cervical cancer with pelvic lymph node metastasis. Methods: VMAT fifteen patients pathological metastasis were included this study. Each patient had two using conventional one (FFF). The made arcs, then recalculated give planned distribution detectors Delta4 phantom. irradiated on phantom an Elekta accelerator (6 MV). Results: mean unit was 506.3 MU standard deviation 48.6 while that FFF 701.5 87.6. total (MUs) significantly greater than (p = 6.1 × 10-5). Conclusion: Flattening (FFF) require numbers comparison filtered beams external radiation nodes involvement.

Dosimetric influence of Flattening Filter (FF) and Flattening Filter Free (FFF) 6 and 10 MV photon beams on Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) planning in case of prostate carcinoma

Background: In the treatment of prostate cancer, radiotherapy is the potential to increase second primary cancers such as bladder and rectal cancers. The reasons for this potential are more monitor units (MUs), therefore a larger total body dose because of leakage radiation, a bigger volume of normal tissue is exposed to lower radiation doses. This study was designed to compare the integral dos...

Flattening Filter-Free Beams in Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy and Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy for Sinonasal Cancer

PURPOSE To evaluate the dosimetric impacts of flattening filter-free (FFF) beams in intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for sinonasal cancer. METHODS For fourteen cases, IMRT and VMAT planning was performed using 6-MV photon beams with both conventional flattened and FFF modes. The four types of plans were compared in terms of target dose homoge...

Dosimetric Validation of Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) Using AAPM TG-119 Benchmark Plans in an Upgraded CLINAC 2100CD for Flattening Filter Free (FFF) Photon Beams

Background: Recently we have upgraded our Varian Clinac 2100CD with a 6MV FFF beam, this upgrade being the first of its kind in our country. Even though the dosimetric characteristics of FFF beams have been reported both in experimental and Monte Carlo studies, application in planning and delivery is complex. The aim of this study was to validate the commissioning of upgraded FFF beams dosimetr...

Surface dose variations in 6 and 10 MV flattened and flattening filter‐free (FFF) photon beams

As the use of linear accelerators operating in flattening filter-free (FFF) modes becomes more widespread, it is important to have an understanding of the surface doses delivered to patients with these beams. Flattening filter removal alters the beam quality and relative contributions of low-energy X-rays and contamination electrons in the beam. Having dosimetric data to describe the surface do...

Volumetric modulated arc therapy ( VMAT )

New calorimeters Simon Duane, NPL Calorimetry remains the most fundamental method for the measurement of absorbed dose and is the basis of almost all absorbed dose primary standards worldwide. Absorbed dose to water is realised either directly, by using water as the absorbing medium, or indirectly, by using another medium (usually graphite) and determining a factor to convert dose from that med...
